The Sweet Life in SLU

Satisfy your sugary cravings with these five desserts.

Halloween is happening this weekend, but don’t worry — there will be plenty of sweet treats left in South Lake Union even after you’ve polished off the last of the candy corn. From decadent churros to whimsical macarons, the neighborhood’s dessert lineup is full of flavor and variety.

These five desserts are some of SLU’s tastiest indulgences:

Passionate Pandan Chiffon Cake
Made by Ba Bar pastry chef Jose Mariscal, this airy and moist sponge stuns with passion fruit mousse and coconut cream. You can get only get this cake on Saturday through Monday at Ba Bar. Grab a slice before it’s gone. 500 Terry Ave. N., babarseattle.com

Fall Macarons
You have a short window to enjoy Lady Yum’s Halloween-themed macarons (Blackberry Lime Vanilla, Chocolate Caramel Apple, and Black Magic) — these flavors are being retired after Halloween is over. Starting Monday, November 1, you can get the new fall lineup at Lady Yum: Pumpkin Spice, Pecan Pie, Morello Cherry, Butterbeer, and Pear Frangipane. 2130 Sixth Ave., ladyyum.com

Churros
Nothing warms you up during a bomb cyclone (also known as normal fall Seattle weather) quite like fried dough covered in cocoa, cinnamon, and sugar. At Casco Antiguo, an order of churros gets you six delectable pieces of fried goodness with a nice side of dulce de leche for dipping. 2102 Seventh Ave., cascoantiguorestaurants.com

Bubble Waffles
Yes, boba is the star at Happy Lemon. But don’t sleep on its bubble waffles — they have a nice, shatteringly crisp exterior and a chewy interior and come in original, chocolate, or matcha red bean. You can certainly dip these in one of the tea shop’s special sauces (red salt cream, puff cream, puff and Oreo cream, or tiramisu crema), but they’re perfectly great on their own, too. 2245 8th Ave., R1-1A, happylemonusa.com

Christmas Tree Buttercream Cake
Cafe An’Clair, run by sisters Anthea and Clair, is a charming coffee shop with a daily menu featuring financiers and scones, plus the occasional pudding selection (banana, Oreo, matcha, and banana Nutella). But it’s not too early to start thinking about holiday desserts — the cafe is now taking preorders for its Christmas-themed macarons and Christmas Tree Buttercream Cake. 826 Thomas St.
