Summer Happenings

Check out these upcoming South Lake Union events.

With summer in full swing, it’s time to take notice of some amazing events coming up in South Lake Union. From MLB All Star Week to the neighborhood’s biggest fete (Block Party is back, baby!), here are some events to look forward to during the sunny season.

All Star SLU
Nitro Plaza (2250 Seventh Avenue) will be decked out in baseball-themed installations through July 13 to celebrate the MLB All Star Game in Seattle. SLU sneaker boutique Likelihood is partnering with Nike from July 7–9 to host Downtown Diamond featuring a number of unique experiences, including:

Friday – Sunday, July 7-9:
“The Dugout” – Merchandise Pop-up and Experience
Nitro Plaza, 2250 7th Ave.
10am-6pm
Offers a small selection of customizable Nike All Star Game and Ken Griffey Jr. merchandise in a baseball-themed experiential space

Saturday, July 8th:
Wiffle Ball Derby
Day 1 Playfield, 2121 7th Ave.
10:00am-2:30pm – Multi-round wiffle ball home run “derby” featuring local little leaguers
3:00pm-7:00pm – Open play

Sunday, July 9th:
“Gallery 24”
Nitro North, 707 Bell St.

Curated art gallery featuring Ken Griffey Jr. photography, Nike shoe wall, and community-sourced artwork celebrating Seattle’s baseball history

Continue the baseball fun with MOHAI’s Baseball All Stars exhibit, which runs through November 5. Explore an intimate display of rare treasures from baseball All-Stars like Ruth, Williams, Clemente, Mays, Koufax, Griffey Jr., and Ichiro. The exhibit also features Seattle’s own Rainiers and Pilots.

Moonrise Night Market and Summer Beer Fest
Seattle’s favorite summer night market series returns on July 22nd to South Lake Union for an alfresco night market. General admission is $15 but you can upgrade to add booze, beer, and cider tasting tokens and an all-night happy hour discount on food. Hit the link for more details. Bonus market news: The Pike Place Market Express Farmers Market is back again every Thursday from 10am to 2pm at Van Vorst Plaza.

SLU Block Party
The neighborhood’s biggest party is back on Thursday, August 10 from 11am to 10pm at 101 Westlake Avenue North. The all-day affair includes live music featuring Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Smokey Brights, La Fonda, Tomo Nakayama, Shaina Shepherd, and DJ Baby Van Beezly, plus an artist showcase from Cornish College of the Arts.
