Small Space, Big Sound

Sub Pop sets up shop in SLU.

Add Sub Pop on 7th to the growing list of new businesses opening up in SLU. The label’s new brick and mortar store is keeping good company at The Regrade — it’s neighbors include the Amazon 4 Star Store, Casco Antiguo, and the Bright Horizon’s early education and preschool center. Shout out to the label’s PR department, which came up with the term “Variety is the spice of South Lake Union” in a recent media release.

Sub Pop has maintained that tongue-in-cheek character since its beginnings in 1988, and the label has been a music fixture in the city since. Sub Pop planted its flag in the Northwest scene early on with releases by Nirvana and Soundgarden. It would later release albums from The Shins, The Head and the Heart, Father John Misty, and many more.

Record store with records on stands and merchandise on racks.

The shop fills its small space with a nice inventory of Sub Pop swag. T-shirts, hoodies, and keepsakes line its shelves and racks, but perhaps most enticing is the store’s selection of vinyl LPs. If you’re a fan of records, you can find any Hardly Art and Sub Pop releases currently in print at the shop.

Sub Pop on 7th (2130 7th Ave) is open Monday through Saturday, 11am to 3pm. Free parking is available with validation at 2121 8th Ave and 2021 7th Ave.

Check out Sub Pop’s amazing lineup of releases and follow the label on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook for more music and store updates.
