"the small things" Opening Reception

Winston Wächter is pleased to present the small things, an intimate exhibition of new paintings by London-based artist Claire Partington.

In the small things, Partington mines the visual language of the Northern Renaissance, drawing direct inspiration from the stark, magical surrealism of masters like Jan van Eyck and Lucas Cranach the Elder. Historical motifs of virtue, fidelity, and mortality are seamlessly updated into the “social media filtered” identities of today.

“Treating the painting and framing as a whole, I aim to create small objects of reflection and intimacy,” says Partington. “My young subjects may feel familiar, but they inhabit their own very distinct and magically unattainable realm.”
