South Lake Union is taking part in a special city-wide exhibit in celebration of Día de los Muertos, a holiday to honor and commemorate the lives of the dearly departed and to welcome the return of their spirits.

Through a partnership with the Downtown Seattle Association, for the month of October two stunning, life-size art pieces handmade by world-renowned artist Hermes Arroyo will be displayed in Van Vorst Plaza. These giant skulls (calaveras) titled “Chautle” and “Frida” are two of ten works in all that will be displayed across the city. A full list of locations is listed below.

Following the city-wide art exhibition, the giant skulls will be moved to Town Hall Seattle for the Catrinas Festival from November 2-5. For more information about the festival, tickets and press passes, visit www.seattlecatrinasfestival.com.

Don’t miss this chance to visit “Chautle” and “Frida” and also enjoy additional art installations and activations in celebration of Día de los Muertos. And, of course, make sure to tag @southlakeunion in your photos on Instagram!
