An Ter Atamiso (the title has no translation) transcends the boundaries of conventional storytelling, drawing us into a world where the familiar blends seamlessly with the surreal. It was constructed as a non-linear experimental film blending generated imagery with green screen footage of dance movement and edited to accompany the soundtrack of six masterful electro-acoustic compositions by composer Jarrad Powell. A series of lingering tableaux, the film conveys a fragmented, dreamlike tension between reality and illusion, the fragility of human relationships (conveyed through the palpable presence of the cast of dancers), and the question of what it means to experience time, to occupy space, and to exist within layers of subjective truth. Each tableau, meticulously arranged, allows us to confront the emotional and intellectual undertow of these themes. The viewer becomes an active participant, a co-creator of the narrative, interpreting meaning from the arrangement of the tableaux, the subtle gestures of the subjects, and the mood conveyed by the play of music, color, light and shadow.
