Shine Bright

Shop by appointment to benefit Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.

In normal times, Shine is a boutique that serves cancer patients, families, and anyone with great taste and a big heart. But these aren’t normal times, and like many other businesses in South Lake Union, the shop that supports the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance has had to make adjustments.

To protect its high-risk customer base and employees, the well-loved shop closed its doors in late May this year. But Shine continues to brighten the community by offering appointment-only shopping for those that need it. The shop is open by appointment only for asymptomatic patients who need post-surgical camisoles, compression garments, mastectomy bras and breast prosthesis.

Closing the Shine doors has been a tough adjustment for store managers Eileen Hood and Carrie Jacobsen.

“It’s been mostly lonely—we miss our SLU neighbors. Patients from the surrounding Seattle area seem to be finding us, making appointments, and we are fulfilling their needs of crucial medically necessary items. We miss the hustle and bustle of our local shoppers for everyday items. We are checking in daily with Seattle Cancer Care Alliance’s Infection Prevention team to discover the safest protocols and timing for reopening,” Carrie said.

Good news if you want to help support Seattle Cancer Care Alliance—you can shop at Shine via phone.

“Anything we offer is available and customers are encouraged to call the store for personal shopping, we’ll send photos to assist in selection and offer curbside delivery.  Don’t forget that window shopping is a form of entertainment,” Eileen said.

All proceeds help fund vital Seattle Cancer Care Alliance Patient & Family Programs.
