Winston Wächter Fine Art Seattle is pleased to present The Parliament, a solo exhibition of new works by acclaimed artist Ethan Murrow.
Opening Reception: Sat, Sep 13 from 4-6pm
Exhibition Run: Sep 2-Oct 18, 2025
Through a series of intricately rendered drawings and paintings, Murrow explores the shifting dynamics between humans and other animals, blurring the lines between species, roles, and realms of understanding. The Parliament constructs poignant, often absurdist tableaux in which humans engage in acts of mimicry, communion, and transformation. Dressed in masks, huddled in congress, or simply occupying the same space, these figures strive toward connection, sometimes sincerely, sometimes foolishly. The results are humorous and profound, highlighting the beauty and the futility of our efforts to bridge the interspecies divide.
“I’m guilty of countless anthropomorphic constructions in my work, in my daily life,” Murrow writes. “These new pieces arise from my continued desire to consider who we are in relationship to the other beings we are lucky enough to live with on this planet. Without them, we’d be nothing at all.”
Murrow’s fascination with animals is lifelong, informed by his youth spent raising goats and sheep. His new body of work gently critiques human tendencies to dominate, categorize, and romanticize, while championing the quiet power of simply existing together. As Murrow notes, animals often appear “unfazed” by human performance, possessing an intelligence that doesn’t rely on spectacle or self-importance. The Parliament offers a meditation on coexistence, humility, and the limits of our own perspective.
