It’s Dad’s Day

Celebrate the father figure in your life with gifts and experiences from SLU.

Father’s Day is this weekend, but there’s no time limit on treating the father figure in your life to something fun and exciting from the neighborhood. Is he a foodie? A sports fan? The outdoorsy type? There’s something for every kind of dad in South Lake Union.

For the adventurous father

  • From the Ground Up, a Washington-based outdoor clothier specializing in hiking socks and outdoor accessories, is popping up at Periodic: A Pop-Up Shop this month. If you miss its limited run in SLU, find products for dad online. Bonus: a portion of each sale supports the Washington Trail Association.
  • The Center for Wooden Boats has plenty of programs, but its Build a Boat courses are peak dad — the SLU institution offers a variety of all-inclusive, weeks-long classes where folks can build their own wooden kayaks, dinghy, or sailers.

For the beer lover

  • Take dad to all-new Tapster for a different beer-drinking experience. The Chicago-based beer house features more than 50 taps. The kicker? You are the beertender — fill a sample from the self-serve taps before you commit to a pint. Tapster has cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages ready for self service, too.

For the home chef

  • Grab some top cuts from The Butcher’s Table — the restaurant’s Mishima Reserve Wagyu and its selection of smoked meats or other favorites will have dad camped out at the grill.
  • Speaking of manning the grill, what backyard barbecue setup would be complete without the perfect apron? Neighborhood newcomer Hardmill has some excellent artisan aprons for the serious pit master in your life. The shop features a number of other kitchen-friendly leather goods, too.

For the sports fanatic

  • Get your dad ready for tee time with a swing analysis from Golftec. An introductory lesson ($125) includes a swing evaluation and assessment from a local golf coach. Golftec also provides club fittings, sales, and trade-ups.
  • Gear up to help dad support Seattle’s newest sports team, the Seattle Kraken. The team shop at Chandler’s Cove is the team’s flagship gear store sells beanies, sweatshirts, hoodies, and so much more.

For the pampered dad

Is it time to get rid of the quarantine facial hair? Capelli’s has dad covered. Book an appointment for the Signature Shave service — a luxurious straight-razor shave, combined with triple-edge blade and modern products.
