SLU Small Business & Nonprofit Relief Fund Open Applications

This fund is intended to help support South Lake Union’s small businesses & nonprofits impacted by COVID-19. While there are multiple grant relief resources becoming available, we have identified gaps that leave some of our neighborhood businesses and nonprofits without relief opportunities. This fund aims to address any funding gaps and support all South Lake Union small businesses & nonprofits. We are currently collecting contributions to the fund with a goal of $250,000.

Eligibility Requirements Has fewer than 50 employees or less than $7 million in annual revenue Is located in SLU or has a majority client base located in SLU Is a current SLU Chamber member **If you are not a current member and meet the Fund eligibility requirements you may JOIN for 2020 at no cost, enter promo code FREE** Granting Prioritizations Businesses/organizations who are most able to provide evidence of decreased revenues Businesses/organizations who have not yet received any other means of financial relief Businesses/Organizations who have demonstrated support of and participation in SLU community activities, initiatives & neighborhood improvements Business/organization’s tenure as SLU Chamber members. Here’s a list of our current Members How To Apply & Application FAQ Fill out the application (link will be posted Monday April 20th) Applications will be accepted and grants will be offered on a rolling basis You only need to submit your application once and it will remain active throughout the duration of the Fund If you receive a grant award and more funding becomes available you may be eligible for additional grant funds; no reapplication is necessary Grants will be awarded in amounts ranging from $1,500-$7,500 depending on demonstrated need and availability of funds

OUR HEARTS LIVE HERE- Mr. Rogers Sweater Challenge

At KCTS 9, we believe that our COMMUNITY is our greatest strength in times of adversity. The novel coronavirus has significantly changed the ways we interact with our family, friends and neighbors. In an effort to spread some joy during the difficult moment we’re all living in, we launched the OUR HEARTS LIVE HERE initiative.

In March we asked you, our community, to decorate your homes in order to spread some joy during this difficult time and you delivered! We received so many amazing submissions that it was hard to choose just a few to feature…so we chose a bunch! You can also check out some of our favorites, which are also currently airing on KCTS 9.

For our next challenge, we want to see you, your kids, your pets or even your plants in your best “Mr. Rogers sweater”. Break out your cardigans and show us and your neighbors that we’re all in this together!

Post your sweaters by using #OurHeartsLiveHere and tagging @KCTS9. Make sure to nominate your friends on social media to participate! We’ll select some of our favorite submissions to be featured in segments that will air on KCTS 9 and shared out with our social media channels.

Finally, please share this with your family, friends and neighbors! The more people who participate the more we show we’re all in this together.

Here’s how to participate:

To be officially considered, fill out this form and include your name, e-mail and photo of your sweater(s)! Use the hashtag #OurHeartsLiveHere to share your work with the community. Include the KCTS 9 flyer with your photo. Don’t have a printer at home? No problem. Just hand-write a sign that says “We’re participating in #OurHeartsLiveHere with KCTS 9!” Feel free to use the hashtag #OurHeartsLiveHere for social media submissions instead of a sign. Follow all social distancing guidelines and stay at least 6 feet away from anyone who doesn’t live in your residence.

Our favorite submissions will be featured in spots aired on KCTS 9.

March 18 - April 28, Winston Wachter

MATT GAGNON: MATERIAL MEMORIES

Winston Wächter Fine art is excited to announce our first solo exhibition with artist, architect and designer Matt Gagnon. Gagnon’s Light Stack sculptures are an ongoing exploration of the artist’s fascination with the transformative quality of light, and how materials and surroundings impacts theses changes. His totemic works incorporate oak, pine, concrete, brass, polished aluminum and painted MDF. Each layered piece offers an interaction with the central lighting source, “holding” and defining the light in a unique way. 

Gagnon believes that everyone approaches a material with their own associations and biases. He suggests that individual combinations and proportions of color and material contain traces or allusions to spaces or memories. The assembled whole is fragmented and ever-changing, and our thoughts and memories are colored by the physical context in which we live.

Gagnon studied architecture at Cornell University before joining the studios of Gaetano Pesce and Frank Gehry. He has taught design at Otis College of Art, Parsons School of Constructed Environments and has been invited to speak at Savannah College of Art and Design, Woodbury School of Architecture, City College of New York and University of Central Oklahoma. He has been featured in publications such as The New York Times, Metropolis, Surface, Interior Design and Dwell. Additionally, Gagnon has been commissioned by Peter Marino (for Chanel and Louis Vuitton), MTV, The Four Seasons and Ritz Carlton hotel groups, Google and NASA’s Deep Space Network facility in Pasadena, CA.
