Urban Sketching: Learning on Foot

Urban sketching, also known as on-location drawing, is just what it sounds like. Instead of snapping hundreds of photos that will go ignored in your phone, you lovingly document the world around you via on-site sketches — creating tangible, thoughtful artifacts from your urban life. If this sounds niche, it’s not. There’s a whole global community of people sharing this kind of work via the Urban Sketchers organization, founded by none other than your instructor, Gabriel Campanario.

Price: $245.

Cider Summit 2019

The 10th annual Cider Summit SEA, the region’s largest hard cider tasting festival returns to Seattle to celebrate the fastest growing segment of the craft beverage market. Cider Summit Seattle will take place Friday, September 6th from 3pm to 8pm (VIP session starts at 2pm-3pm) and Saturday, September 7th from noon to 5pm at Lake Union Park @ MOHAI, 860 Terry Ave. N. adjacent to The Museum of History & Industry.

Presented by Capitol Cider, this year’s Cider Summit SEA will offer tasting flights from each producer, allowing guests to enjoy more variety in smaller sample sizes, in addition to their regular 2oz pours. Guests will also receive commemorative 2oz festival glassware, as well as double the number of tasting tickets from previous years. This year’s event will feature over 150 ciders, meads, and cider cocktails including regional favorites and international classics, from the industry’s leading cidermakers, many of which will be on hand to inform and guide guests through the tastings.

Several cidermakers will also be competing in the Oregon Fruit Products Fruit Cider Challenge, creating pilot batch fruit ciders using Oregon Fruit Products puree. Attendees will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite via text, with the winners announced at the conclusion of the event.

“Cider Summit annually exposes thousands of cider lovers and the cider curious to some of the industry’s most unique products,” explained event co-founder, Alan Shapiro. “We’re thrilled to celebrate our 10th anniversary by continuing that mission and also add a few surprises to thank our guests for helping us reach 10 years.”

Tickets are on sale now at https://www.cidersummitnw.com/tickets. General admission includes a souvenir tasting glass and 16 tasting tickets and costs $30 (plus taxes & service charges) prior to July 31, $35 from Aug.1 – Sept.5, or $45 at the gate (including all taxes & service charges). GA tickets will also be available starting Aug. 1 at Capitol Cider. Additional tasting tickets are available onsite for $2 each. Guests will be allowed to re-enter the event both days with wristband on and with this year’s event glass.

VIP tickets are available exclusively online, with limited quantities, which include a souvenir tasting glass, early entry from 2pm-3pm on Sept. 6, and 20 tasting tickets. VIP tickets cost $40 (plus taxes & service charges) prior to July 31 or $45 from to Aug. 1, or while supplies last. VIP tickets are not available at the gate.

Designated Driver tickets are available at the gate for $5 and include a bottle of water. No alcohol may be consumed with a Designated Driver ticket. All tickets allow re-entry on Friday and Saturday with event wristband worn and the tasting glass.

This year’s festival will feature uniquely paired bites that will be available for purchase from local producers. There will also be a “Dog Lounge” hosted by Seattle Humane, giving dogs and their owners a place to socialize and refresh.

Cider Summit SEA is presented by Capitol Cider. Supporting sponsors include Amazon, First Tech Federal Credit Union, Oregon Fruit Products, Seattle Cider Company, and Northwest Beverages. Media partners include CIDERCRAFT Magazine, The Stranger and KEXP. The event is a benefit for the Northwest Cider Association, Seattle Humane, and The Institute for Myeloma & Bone Cancer Research.

Please note: well-behaved dogs of any age are welcome, but humans must be 21 & over – no exceptions. For more information, visit CiderSummit.com, Facebook.com/CiderSummit or follow @CiderSummit on Twitter and Instagram, hashtag #CiderSummitSEA.
