History of Virginia V & Mosquito Fleet of Puget Sound

The S.S. VIRGINIA V is the last operational example of a Puget Sound Mosquito Fleet steamer. Her maiden voyage was on June 11, 1922. Her all-wood construction and steam engine make her a National Historic Landmark vessel.

The ship served as a passenger and freight ferry serving the route between Seattle and Tacoma along the “West Pass” (aka Colvos Passage) between Vashon Island and the Kitsap Peninsula between 1922-1938.  She brought thousands of Camp Fire Girls to Camp Sealth and for much of the century she’s been a passenger excursion vessel.  Presenter Ed Brown is our Senior Docent and our resident expert on the ship’s history.
