The Great Outdoors

South Lake Union streets become dining plazas.

Al fresco eating. Plein air dining. Whichever way you slice it, outdoor feasting is happening in South Lake Union and in communities throughout Seattle. A good handful of restaurants have offered outdoor seating all summer, and the neighborhood is going a step further to embrace the last few weeks of warm weather and sunshine by closing several blocks to vehicle traffic to accommodate socially distanced outdoor seating.

One of the most notable plaza popups is the Regrade Streateries, a collection of three different areas featuring fencing, tent canopies, bistro seating, and fresh flowers provided by Pike Place Market Farmers. This expanded access to safe outdoor dining allows diners to support their favorite local businesses.

The Regrade Streateries are open daily from 8am to 8pm and will serve the neighborhood through November 7. These areas don’t offer direct restaurant service, but consider takeout options from the nearby businesses below:

Sixth Avenue between Blanchard and Lenora

Lady Yum, 2120, Willmott’s Ghost

Sixth Avenue between Lenora and Virginia

Evergreens Salad, Potbelly Sandwich Shop, Mamnoon Street, Marination

Seventh Avenue between Blanchard and Lenora

Joe & The Juice, Casco Antiguo SLU, Amazon Go

And here’s a hot tip: Amazon garages at 2021 7th Avenue and 2121 8th Avenue offer free parking on nights and weekends (Monday to Friday, 4pm to 2am; Saturday and Sunday, 7am to 2am)

Outdoor street eatery set up with patio furniture

Just a few blocks away at Ninth Avenue between Thomas and John streets, diners can find the street lined with smile-inducing artificial turf, cute picket fences, and colorful bistro tables and chairs. This spot is open Thursday through Sunday from noon to 9pm. Grab noshes and sips from nearby businesses like Gold Bar, Evoke Coffee, and Jacks BBQ while taking in some socially distanced live music.
