South Lake Union’s influx of busy working humans has brought a boom of four-legged friends to the neighborhood. It seems like everywhere you look there’s a happy, tail-wagging pup leading its person to canine-focused spaces like the Amazon Day 1 Dog Park or the nearby off-leash area at Regrade Park. And with dog-friendly businesses like Local Public Eatery, Henry’s Tavern, and others, SLU is a great neighborhood for dog owners.
You can even find freshly made dog food in SLU. Just Food For Dogs, a chain based out of California, recently opened its first Seattle kitchen. Its storefront looks like a restaurant and offers up tantalizing, meals like beef and russet potato, venison and squash, and more. Aside from meals, you can find snacks, supplements, and a few food items for cats, too.
The Barking Lounge (222 Dexter Ave. N.) offers doggy daycare and boarding options, plus grooming. In terms of grooming, this spot doesn’t offer haircuts, opting instead to focus on baths, nail trims, brush-outs, and other essential services. Plus, The Barking Lounge’s proceeds go to support foster and adoption program in partnership with Tragic to Magic Animal Rescue, which is devoted to rescuing homeless, neglected, and abused dogs. Downtown Dog Lounge (1011 Mercer St.) provides daycare, boarding, and grooming, too, but also offers training and a sweet pooch shuttle to and from its SLU location.
