Pathways: Joe Rudko, Kandis Susol, & Brian Sanchez

Each artist practices a different form of hyper-specific abstraction. The pure formalism of Rudko’s cut and assembled found photograph collages elicits half-forgotten memories reorganized into beautiful, fractured networks, while Susol’s handcrafted and wax-coated paper sculptures are meditations in themselves, exploring the fragility and resilience within all of us. Sanchez’ paintings meander through vibrantly contrasting hues with sharp lines, recontextualizing basic forms and colors through complicated spatial relationships. All three artists visualize the paths we explore throughout a lifetime.

Joe Rudko lives and works in Seattle. He received his BFA in Photography and Drawing from Western Washington University in 2013. His work is in the permanent collection of The Getty Museum, Portland Art Museum, Tacoma Art Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston and most recently in the Morgan Library & Museum in New York.

Kandis Susol lives and works out of her home on Orcas Island. She has studied fiber arts, paper making and encaustics throughout her career. She has exhibited at the Bellevue Arts Museum and the San Juan Islands Museum of Art, as well as numerous exhibitions throughout the Northwest.

Brian Sanchez lives and works in Seattle, WA. He has completed numerous public installations and murals and has additionally worked in sculpture, photography, and design. His work has been exhibited in Seattle, Portland, Virginia, Washington DC, San Diego, San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City, London, and Tokyo.
