Summer is in full swing and to celebrate that, we invited a local artist to show her very colorful array of paintings. Aptly titled “Sparkly/Shiny”, this show “celebrates the triumph of human spirit over diversity.”
During dark times, Cariña Booyens realized that a human spirit can come close to be broken. Despite all odds, it was during a period of abuse in a destructive relationship that the paintings in this series was born. These iridescent and luminescent works are the products born from a spirit that decided to create instead of lie down and die. From the darkness came a sparkle. From there she realized she will never let anyone ever again dull her shine.
