Party With a Purpose

June 17, 9:00 p.m. – McCaw Hall
Glam cocktail bash. Awareness-raiser extraordinaire.

Hey, you savvy young professional types - when you go to a party, what are you hoping for? Meeting cool people? Dancing? Great food and bevs? Well, you’ll find all these things at Party with a Purpose…along with a little thing called “changing the world.”

Back Story
In late 2009, a group of local young people involved in global health came together, inspired by the book “10 Ways to Change the World in Your 20s.” They hailed from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Amazon.com, Microsoft, The Boeing Company, the University of Washington, United Way and other nonprofits. As an initiative of the Washington Global Health Alliance, they formed a volunteer board and Party With a Purpose (PWAP) was born. At its core was the belief that when young adults focus on a single cause, even for one night, it can lead to progress that packs a punch.

Purpose Behind the Party
Each event thrown by PWAP is focused on education and fundraising for a single global health cause. The first party in 2010 raised $13,000 to buy hydration stations for children in Kenya, who die in huge numbers from preventable, diarrhea-related dehydration. Yep. Icky AND fatal. Kids in the U.S. would never succumb from this, but in Africa it’s commonplace.

In 2011, proceeds will help the Infectious Disease Research Institute develop a TB vaccine and TB tests to be used by clinics in earthquake-decimated Haiti.

Wanna Play?
Sure you do! A $35 ticket gets you through the door and loads you up with everything you’ll need for a rockin’ night, such as:

• Appetizers
• Two drinks (Thanks, Chateau Ste. Michelle and Pyramid Breweries!)
• Silent disco (wireless headsets and a DJ – genius, yes?)
• Lots of room for maniacal dancing
• Opportunity to win plane rides, hotel stays, tix for a Mariners suite and a mountaineer’s dream package
• Most importantly, a raised awareness around human suffering and ways YOU can help

Get your tickets here.

Kristen Eddings, program associate at the Washington Global Health Alliance and PWAP board member, said, “The Party With a Purpose wouldn’t exist without the generous contributions of many businesses and volunteers in the South Lake Union community. Vulcan was the founding sponsor of PWAP in 2010 and continued its partnership with us in 2011, helping connect us with other sponsors who also support this global health movement.”

“Thanks to everyone – and get ready for a night to remember!”
